Galería Cayón is pleased to open its second season in Mahon, Menorca, with an exhibition focusing on the exploration of color through the works of Stanley Whitney (Philadelphia, 1946) and Yves Klein (Nice, 1928-Paris, 1962).

Whitney, whose work will appear in Galería Cayón for the first time, has been exploring the possibilities of color for several decades. In Whitney’s recent paintings, color takes center stage with off-kilter geometric areas of color filling his canvases. These spaces of color, laid out in a weave-like pattern, reflect the artist’s continued pursuit of placing color at the core of artistic creation.

Each color expresses a living world, as Yves Klein demonstrated in his works. Klein, another major artist deeply devoted to color, shares with Whitney the conception of color as an autonomous entity. He firmly believed that color possesses a revelatory quality, offering a new vision of space through color.

In Klein’s words,  “The line travels through infinity, whereas color is infinity.”

This exhibition, held in the main hall of Galería Cayón in Menorca, will include a selection of recent paintings by Stanley Whitney, as well as Yves Klein’s iconic installation, Pure Pigment. This work by Klein was first presented in 1957 at the Galerie Colette Allendy, Paris. It will be recreated for this exhibition with the support of the Yves Klein Archives.
