Galería Cayón is pleased to present Marco Maggi´s fourth exhibition in the Gallery, first one in Spain after he participated at the Venezia Biennial in 2015.
After over 20 years working with what generally is known as “drawing”, Maggi, -well known because of his intrincate technique that forces the spectator to pay attention to the most subtle details on the piece- will expand his work at the gallery, constructing an installation of 80,000 thousand sheets of paper that will be presented in 160 blocks establishing a path that invites the viewer to turn, stand and walk.
The tiny and delicate drawings by Maggi come out as a romantic and intimate view against the contemporary communications systems that don’t allow the direct human contact. His artworks represent imperceptible archetypes about prosaic materials: paper sheets, ceramics, slideshows.
Maggi was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1957. He lives and works in New Platz, United States and in Montevideo. He has been the artist appointed to represent Uruguay in the 56th Venice Biennial.
His work can be found in various museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington DC; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; as well as in the Cisneros Collection, New York and the Daros Foundation, Zurich. among many other collections.
