Galería Cayón is pleased to announce that its new space in Menorca will open to the public with an exhibition devoted to the North-American artist Fred Sandback (Bronxville, New York, USA 1943 – New York 2003), considered one of the most important artists of the so-called minimal art.

Fred Sandback broke with the idea that the sculpture should be a solid element and transform it into an ethereal thing, due to the use of acrylic and very thin metallic yarn.
He laid off all kind of content and opted for the pure presence, for the simplicity of the sculpture shape. Thus, the works by Sandback evoke a fragile architecture that seems to be almost intangible.

Works by Sandback are present in museums such as MoMA (New York), Reina Sofía (Madrid), Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (Washington DC), Kunsthaus (Zurich), Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York) or Pinakothek der Moderne (Munich), among others many institutions. It also has a permanent installation in Dia: BeaconBeacon (New York).

A selection of works by artists with whom the gallery works or represents – Josef Albers, Martin Chirino, Cruz-Diez, Jan Dibbets, Dan Flavin, Luis Gordillo, José Guerrero, Yves Klein, Yayoi Kusama, David Magán, Marco Maggi, Pablo Palazuelo, Herminio, Jesus Soto, Antoni Tàpies and Bernar Venet – will be presented.
The space will be opened to the public Monday to Saturday 6 – 9pm and by appointment.
