Inés Figaredo
Inés Figaredo, born in Madrid in 1976.
With an academic background entirely unrelated to the artistic scene, she began, in an organic and tumultuous way, to organize her existence by using everyday elements of containment capable of set forth a specific space, through which structure, order, and refuge could be generated.
The symbol emerges, and along with it, the resource.
For some time now, she has lived a sort of voluntary domestic seclusion, where, through her experience with objects, she journeys into a state of daydreaming and constant association, from which she draws existential and universal conclusions.
The intimacy, retreat, and rest that the home provides allow her, through conversation with the various spaces, to recreate scenes and freeze situations that occurred or could have occurred in this epicenter of human existence.
Using materials at her disposal, always full of symbolism, evocation, and genetic weight; she works with the voluptuousness and materiality in an urgent and automatic manner, seeking the verticality of the structure (of the home) to, in parallel, build a boundary against disproportion, conflict, confusion, fear, and thus prevent herself from vaporizing.
Sometimes mother, sometimes father, sometimes child or sister…; she coexists, represents, and explores the various family roles within the group. Member or spectator, through this participation, she creates a unique language through which large and small, anthropologically loaded, daily questions are resolved, and thus constructs a reality strong enough that, once repaired, can stand on its own.
