Alan Charlton (1948, Sheffield) studied at the Camberwell School of Art in London from 1966 to 1969, and it was during his studies there that he began experimenting with industrial materials, modules, and grey painting. His work has gained recognition since the 1970s, and his pieces are part of museums and collections such as the Arts Council Collection (London, UK), the “La Caixa” Contemporary Art Collection (Barcelona), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), MAM Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Paris, France), Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Castello di Rivoli (Turin, Italy), Museum Abteiberg (Mönchengladbach, Germany), MuHKA Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst (Antwerp, Belgium), and the Tate Gallery collection (London, UK).
